Jan 20th

First the progress:

Both Clara and Jacob are off the ventilator and are using a CPAP to assist with breathing (basically an Oxygen mask). Clara is doing very well on it but Jake was acting up a little bit during our visit today. The nurse said he only had it on for a few hours.

Both did eat 1ml of "mommy milk' each. Too bad mommy is producing a quart a day. If anybody has extra freezer space and don't mind "mommy milk" please call Krystal. They will get 1ml every 6 hours and hopefully we will get a couple bowel movements in the next day or two. The Doc and nurses say this will be a BIG event for each.

Jacob's brain ultrasound report came back with minimal bleeding. Which is a very good. He will be checked again in a month.

Now the setbacks:

Clara's brain ultrasound report came back with "very large germinal matrix bleed" which may lead to developmental problems down the road but there is no-way of knowing the severity yet. They will monitor her much more closely. I will post some information on this setback after I do some research. They are not sure what trauma may have caused the bleeding. It could have been the birthing process or the trauma of the collapsed lung Sunday.

She also has a positive test for a type "Staff" virus that will limit our contact with her and if she tests positive for a certain strain they will have to isolate her to protect the other babies in the NICU.
